About longitudes.org

longitudes.org is a web site created by Europeans and Americans concerned about the future of the trans-Atlantic relationship. We start from the premise that, in a globalized world, we have much to learn from each other in terms of political, economic and social development, and that learning is best done in the spirit of dialogue and communication.

longitudes.org is advised by a steering committee. Below are the current members of the committee:

Steven Hill, Irvine Senior Fellow with the New America Foundation. His latest book is "Fixing Elections: The Failure of America’s Winner Take All Politics" (Routledge Press, 2003, www.FixingElections.com), which political analyst/author Michael Lind has called "the most important book on American democracy that has come out in many years." His commentaries, opeds and articles have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor, The Nation, Ms., American Prospect, New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Roll Call, Miami Herald, Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Salon.com, Asian Week, National Civic Review and many others. Internationally, his work has been published in Politik-Digital (Germany), Italy Daily, International Herald Tribune, Prague Post, Taiwan News, New Internationalist and others. He also has appeared on FoxNews, CSPAN’s “BookTV,” AT&T’s “Books of our Times,” National Public Radio's “Marketplace” “Weekend Edition,” and “Cambridge Forum,” and given numerous interviews on various radio and TV programs in the U.S. Abroad, he has appeared on Dubai-TV (United Arab Emirates), the Netherlands' TV program “Netwerk,”and other radio and TV programs in the Netherlands and Berlin. Among his current writing projects is a book comparing political, media and economic institutions between the U.S. and Europe. He lives in San Francisco, California, USA.

Meredith Wheeler is a psychotherapist, writer and former producer for ABC News. She is the Founder & Chair of the Southwest Chapter of Democrats Abroad France and an active member of American Voices Abroad (AVA). A graduate of Stanford University, she lives with her English husband near Toulouse, France. She has lived in Europe for 20 years and began the experiment of living abroad as an AFS student to Iran in 1969. Her particular interest is combining political activism with community building, based on qualities of heart & soul.

Paul Nellen is a political scientist, an author and a free-lance radio journalist focused mainly on U.S. themes. He lives in Hamburg, Germany.
